If you’re in someone’s Genie wishlist

People use Genie to collect gift wishes — often for someone: “Mom”, “Brother”. If someone wrote you down like that, this page is for you: what may be stored about you, who sees it, and how to ask for it to be removed. We say it here because we can’t write to you ourselves: we don’t have your contact details.

Who is responsible

Genie is operated by Gleb Tkatchouk, Kehilat Brazil, 10, apt. 12, Tel Aviv Yaffo, 6753810, Israel. Email: support@bemygenie.app.

Where this data comes from

It was typed in by a person who uses Genie — the wishlist owner. We didn’t get it from you. Most of what they write stays only on their phone and never reaches us; entries about you reach our server when they share a wishlist that mentions you.

What may be stored about you

Only what the owner typed in themselves, and only if they did:

What we don’t have

So we never send you anything, and nobody can find you in Genie: there is no people search — not by name, email or phone. We don’t sell data about you and show no ads.

Who sees it

Only the person who made the entries sees them. If they share a wishlist, its members and guests with the link see the wishlist title and the wishes in it — title, link, price and the shop’s description — but not who each wish is for, the owner’s notes, dates or sizes. If the owner put you in the wishlist title (say, “Gifts for Mom”), everyone they shared it with sees that title.

The data is stored by our provider Supabase in the EU, in Frankfurt (Germany); the other providers are named in the Privacy Policy.

Why, and on what legal basis

So the owner remembers what they want to give and to whom, and can collect a wishlist for you together with others. For people in the EU the basis is legitimate interests (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)), and you have the right to object: that is the removal request below.

How long it is kept

For as long as the owner keeps the entry about you. If they delete the entry about you, it is erased from our server right away, and your name is also cleared from the wishlist’s change history. Deleted wishes and wishlists are erased after 30 days — except those still held by an open reservation: they are kept until the reservation is cancelled or completed. If the owner deletes their account, everything is erased right away.

An entry deleted at your request is marked, and it won’t come back to our server even if the owner’s phone uploads it again.

We keep our correspondence with you about the request for one year, then delete it.

How to ask for removal

Email support@bemygenie.app with the subject “I’m in someone’s wishlist”. Include:

If you ask what is stored, we name only the kinds of data — for example, that there is a label the owner gave you, an occasion date, a link to gift wishes — not the entries themselves: we never hand out their text or the wishes to anyone based on a link.

What happens next

No ID documents or photos are needed. We’ll reply and act within 30 days. If the link and the name aren’t enough to tell who you are in it, we’ll say what’s missing — and won’t ask for anything beyond that.

We’ll delete the entries about you from our server, and they will be removed from the owner’s phone too. The owner will see in the app that the entry was removed following a data protection request, but won’t learn who asked: we never name the person who made the request. If the owner later writes you down again, that is a new entry — you can ask about it the same way.

If you disagree with our answer

You may complain to a supervisory authority — which one is listed in the Privacy Policy.
